Wear your clothes inside out in November to support Penhaligon’s Friends

Have Penhaligon’s Friends supported your school, setting or community before?

Last year, our small Cornish charity supported 1,304 children and young people through a range of different support services. We also supported many more including 15 schools following critical incidents such as the death of a student or staff member.

When a child experiences the death of a parent, sibling, or someone close, their world is turned upside down. What they show on the outside can be very different from what they’re feeling on the inside. Inside Out Day for Penhaligon’s Friends encourages pupils and staff to wear one item of clothing inside out, reminding everyone that it’s okay to show how they feel.

We are inviting your setting to take part in this meaningful, easy‑to‑run awareness event.

As you will be aware, from September 2026, the UK Government has introduced death, dying and bereavement education into the national curriculum. With around one child in every classroom sadly having experienced the death of a parent or sibling, we feel this is an important time to launch this campaign and encourage schools to get involved.

Inside Out Day takes place during Children’s Grief Awareness Week (16th–21st November). Schools and childcare settings can choose any day within the week to get involved. We suggest a voluntary donation of £1 per participant, either in cash or via an online fundraising page, helping us continue providing support across Cornwall. If you also have your own idea about your own fundraising event, we would love to hear about it!

As the only dedicated childhood bereavement charity in Cornwall, we rely on donations to keep all our support completely free for families, schools and communities. You can read more in our latest Impact Report – attached to this email.

If you’d like to save the date, simply reply to this email or contact us at enquiries@penhaligonsfriends.org.uk or 01209 210624 / 01209 215889.

Once you confirm, we will send your digital toolkit, including:

  • Printable posters for your childcare setting
  • Newsletter and social media text
  • Graphics and media assets
  • Help with setting up a fundraising page for online donations

We would also be delighted to visit your setting to share more about Penhaligon’s Friends with staff, children and families, or attend any wellbeing or enrichment events you may have planned.

Thank you so much for your time, and for helping us ensure that every bereaved child and young person feels supported, understood and not alone.
