NEW! Professional Training – Book Now!

Penhaligon’s Friends, together with Cornwall Educational Psychology Service, are excited to announce two new training days suitable for professionals working with bereaved children.

Following the revised publication of the Department of Education’s Statutory Guidance for Relationships, Sex, and Health Education (RSHE), from 1st September this year it will be mandatory for every maintained school, academy, and free school in England to include death, grief, and bereavement on their curriculum. The guidance will apply across early years, primary and secondary and further education.

When asked, staff in education have expressed they don’t feel skilled to support children who have been bereaved and recent surveys among teachers suggest that they do not feel prepared for the new curriculum changes.

Why is it important to get it right?

  • 1 in 29 school aged children have been bereaved of a significant or sibling… that’s at least one child in an average classroom!
  • Every 20 minutes a parent dies in the U.K, leaving dependent children – that’s nearly 27,000 children a year!
  • When Ofsted  asked 11-18 year olds what they most wanted to learn about in RSHE ‘coping with a bereavement’ came top of their list!

Our training will help you prepare for the coming changes as well as giving you some skills and knowledge to help you support children and young people who are bereaved or know someone with a serious illness.

The first day is aimed at any Professionals working with bereaved children in school settings – you can find all of the details below.
